Book fairs and book festivals…This does not sounds like a place where you can go shopping and have fun at all, at least for most of us. Have you ever thought how often you visit such events? Once a month, or once a year…may be once in a lifetime… some people even have not set foot on such a place.

For us, who enjoy reading and find books charming, book fairs are like Paradise. Actually, this is the place where you can meet people like you – thirsty for exciting stories, looking for the most favourite’s author novels or just for a classic tome for a present.

I am sure that most of you, have visited a book festival at least once in your lifetime. It probably took place in your home town or you found it by chance, while you were on a holiday somewhere around the globe. But have you ever been in the Northern Europe, where Norway’s capital is situated? I bet only a few of you did. For this reason, and because of the fact I live here, I want to present you Oslo Book Festival!

In Norway, the Oslo Book Festival is relatively new and probably not so popular event. It is organised for the first time in 2010 as a result from the joint efforts of the Norwegian Publishers Association and the Norwegian Booksellers Association. This partnership paid off as the Oslo Book Festival which today is the Norway’s largest literature festival. National as well as international authors visit the festival which offers a broad, engaging and sometimes surprising program.

The festival took place on the Karl Johans Gate which is Oslo’s main boulevard leading from the Central Station through the central shopping district and up to the Royal Palace. It is usually held in the autumn and lasts three days, during which people have the opportunity too meet the established as well as future authors. In the festival area you can see outdoor scene, as well as a lot of tents, in which books are sold. Often, this is the place where you can find your favourite novels on half price and the latest bestsellers with a great discount.

Oslo Book Festival offers everyone an unforgettable experience. It is free and open to everyone, so if you happen to be in the Norway’s capital, you definitely should not miss Oslo Book Festival! Meet you there in September 🙂
