Monday Mourning by Kathy Reichs

Kathleen Joan Toele Reichs was born on July 7, 1948.  She now writes crime novels but is also an academic and qualified forensic anthropologist.   She is a professor of anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte USA.  She divides her work time between the Laboratoire des Sciences Judiciaires et de Médecine Légale for the province of Quebec in Canada and her professorship at UNC, Charlotte.   She is one of only eighty-two forensic anthropologists certified by the American Board of Forensic Anthropology.  She is also on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Anthropology.   Her schedule also involves a number of speaking engagements around the world.  Reichs has been a producer for the TV series  Bones which is based on her series of “Bones” books.  She has two daughters, Kerry and Courtney, and one son, Brendan.

In this book, the bones of three young women are unearthed in the basement of a Montreal pizza restaurant.  Forensic anthropologist Tempe Brennan has an unsolved murder on her mind as she examines the shallowly buried remains.   The she comes up against a homicide cop who is convinced the dead have been entombed on the site for centuries but Tempe perseveres to prove whether or not this is true.  Her relationship with Detective Andrew Ryan is at a delicate turning point.

Then, in the lab, the clean, well-preserved bones offer few clues.   However, when Carbon 14 confirms her hunch that these were recent deaths, despite antique buttons found near the bodies, Tempe’s probing must produce answers quickly to stop a killer whose grisly handiwork has seen the light of day.

If you do not like Reichs writing style or characters, just give this a miss.   However, if you enjoy Kathy Reichs books, you will enjoy this novel.  It is a real page turner and I read it quickly.  I thoroughly enjoyed the book.  Other Kathy Reichs books reviewed on this site are shown: https://,  ‎,…y-kathy-reichs/,
